What this application does?

This application is a software simulation of a DAW remote controller surface.
It is based upon the Mackie Control Unversal Protocol which is a MIDI based protocol developed by Mackie to put hardware surface control in communication with any compatible DAW.
Moreover this simulation has embedded a display area showing IN and OUT MIDI messages exchanged with the DAW to remotetly control the various mixer functions. These display areas are very useful to learn how messages are mapped in the DAW virtual mixer and what are the values exchanged.

How it works

DAW Remote Controller Simulator needs first of all a virtual MIDI cable to connect it via software with the DAW, then you have to configure your DAW to use the Mackie Control and that's all! You are ready to start your discovery of the Mackie protocol.

First Step

MIDI Virtual Cable

First thing first, you have to download and install a software like for instance LoopMIDI from Tobias Erichsen. Here is the link: LoopMIDI

Second Step

Configure DAW Remote Controller Simulator

Install the DAW Remote Controller Simulator and launch it. Once done that, you will have to configure the Virtual MIDI cable. In case you have two separate virtual cables for IN and OUT, ensure to set the IN virtual cable in the OUT channel of the controller simulator and the OUT virtual cable in the IN channel.

Third Step

Configure the DAW

As last thing you have to configure the DAW to work with Mackie Universal Control and to set the IN virtual cable in the IN channel of the DAW and the OUT virtual cable in the OUT channel of the DAW. Restart the DAW and you are done!
